Getting the Biggest Bang for the Buck
When doing home improvements project you don't always have to break the bank. Something to consider are you wanting to do the project to to sell the home or to make it more comfortable. There are several projects you can do from inexpensive to expensive. Many of these improvements can make you money later.
Paint
Painting the interior of the home is an inexpensive way to give it a fresh look. Be sure to use a high-quality paint. You may spend more money, but it will be worth it in the long run. Also before painting, if you intend to sell the home choose a light, neutral color. This will appeal to a larger group of potential buyers. An while you are painting be sure to paint the interior trim. Typically they are painted with an oil base paint.
Updating the Kitchen
You don't have to necessarily spend a lot of money to update the kitchen. A few inexpensive items to update the kitchen would be to refresh the kitchen cabinets. Change the lighting to a newer digital fixture. It will provide a brighter light with a fraction of the electricity. Something a little more expensive would be to add a new backsplash for a new look. Many times just small changes can make a huge difference in the appearance of a kitchen.
Updating the Bathrooms
Doing a few minor changers to the bathroom. To give your bathroom a new look change the vanity, replace the old toilet with a new water saving toilet. Maybe replace old faucets and update the showerhead if needed. Removing old caulk and re-caulking the bathtub can improve the look and function.
Flooring
If the carpeting is looking worn in the living room maybe it's time to remove it and replace with hardwood. Many homeowners choose to save money and do it themselves. In the wet areas (kitchens, bathrooms, entryways) try installing hard tile. This will make cleaning easier and give you years of use.
Landscaping
If you are uncertain where to start with outdoor projects there are many landscaping ideas. One inexpensive idea is to add mulch to the flowerbeds. This will really make the exterior pop. Consider adding some colorful shrubs or parental flowers.
Updating the Décor
Before starting take a look around to see if your door knobs, hedges and locks could use updating. Are the window treatments they outdated? Maybe the light fixtures and electrical outlet covers needing replacing?
